CVS Health plans to split into two companies, reversing a combination that brought together the retailer and insurer Aetna, according to The Wall Street Journal. The separation is planned for early 2028, a decade after the nearly $70 billion merger between CVS and Aetna.

One company would include Aetna and Caremark, CVS’s pharmacy-benefit manager. The other would hold the company’s 9,000 retail pharmacies.

Separately, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration conducted a higher proportion of unannounced drug inspections in India and China in fiscal 2026 than in the previous year, Regulatory Focus reported. The agency has been increasing unannounced inspections at foreign facilities as part of an effort to bring inspection levels in line with those in the United States.

In India, unannounced inspections rose from 47% of inspections in fiscal 2025 to 87% in fiscal 2026. In China, the share increased from 19% to 61% over the same period.
