The SuperHalfs is a European series of six half marathons designed for runners who want to combine international racing with travel. The events take place in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia, and several have hosted the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships.
The series has gained attention as the half marathon remains a particularly popular race distance. According to the 2026 Running USA Global Runner Survey, based on responses from more than 11,000 runners, it was the most popular distance, while almost half of respondents said they would travel more than 500 miles for a good half marathon or marathon.
Runners do not need to complete the six events within a fixed period. They have a lifetime to finish the series, after which they receive a seventh medal. The early 2027 races are sold out, but autumn 2027 and 2028 events can be considered for future planning.
The 2027 series begins with the Lisbon Half Marathon on March 7 in Almada, Portugal. The race has a field of 35,000 runners, a three-hour time limit and a course that crosses the 25 de Abril Bridge while following the River Tagus. Although Lisbon is a hilly city, the race route is described as flat. Its lottery typically opens in June.
The Prague Half Marathon follows on April 3. With 17,000 runners and a three-hour time limit, the route passes historic parts of the Czech capital, including castles, rivers and bridges. It starts in Bubenské Nábřeží, Holešovice, and finishes at Jan Palach Square in Prague’s Old Town. The lottery generally opens in August. The series was created in Prague by Carlo Capalbo and is managed by RunCzech.
Berlin hosts the third race on April 4. The event is the largest in the series, with more than 42,000 runners and a 3:15-hour time limit. Participants pass landmarks including the Victory Column and finish with a run through the Brandenburg Gate. The lottery usually opens in April, with results announced in June.
The Copenhagen Half Marathon is scheduled for September 19. More than 45,000 runners are expected, and the time limit is three hours. The course travels through the historic inner city and colorful bridge districts. Music from DJs, bands and choirs, along with designated “Power Zones,” gives the race a festival atmosphere. Its 2027 lottery is expected to open in March.
The Cardiff Half Marathon takes place on October 3. The Welsh race has more than 28,000 runners and a four-hour time limit. The route includes Cardiff Castle, the Principality Stadium, the Civic Centre and Cardiff Bay. The event began in 2003 with 1,500 participants and is now part of the international series. Its lottery is usually open through October.
The final 2027 event is the Valencia Half Marathon on October 24. The race has 25,000 runners and a 2:45-hour time limit. Participants run through the city center and pass the Torres de Serranos, historic city walls and murals by local artists. Registration typically opens a few weeks after the race, usually in early November.
Travel requires more preparation than a domestic race. All six events are held in cities with international airports, and runners can either arrange trips independently or use companies such as Sports Tours International. Group packages may include hotels, race briefings, escorted expo visits, walking tours, shakeout runs and race registration.
Runners traveling independently are advised to arrive at least 48 hours before the event to allow time to collect their bib if a flight is delayed. Many races do not permit race-morning bib pickup. Jet lag should also be considered when deciding whether to race at the beginning or end of a trip.
Maintaining regular food and fluid intake can be challenging in an unfamiliar city. Preparing by visiting a local grocery store and buying food for race morning can help runners maintain their usual routine. Participants should also be prepared for narrow or cobbled streets in some historic areas, even though much of the racing takes place on broad, relatively flat roads.
