Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon is expected to lead the Senate Finance Committee, while Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is the presumptive next chair of the health committee, following Democrats’ gains in Tuesday’s elections.

The committee leadership changes could give new momentum to efforts to establish a single-payer health care system. Sanders has long advocated for Medicare for All, while Wyden has voiced support for the policy more recently.
